Since the launch of Microsoft Windows 11the Start menu has been a source of controversy. Complaints have continued, from its central placement on the taskbar to the integration with Bing/Copilot or the placement of ads or recommended apps. And while Redmond has certainly worked to improve the user experience, there is still much to be done.
Luckily, the latest Windows 11 beta is giving us signs that the company is thinking about introducing a new feature to improve app management from the Start menu. As it turns out ghost land Microsoft plans to include the ability to enable X (Twitter) show all programs grouped by categories.
The section will include grouping by categories. “All Applications” from the Windows 11 Start menu Same thing. insider It was previously reported that the operating system will have the ability to view all programs in a grid, rather than as a list.
It looks like Microsoft is aiming to suggest three alternatives so that users can choose which one best suits their needs. In the beta version, you can see that when you type “All apps,” a submenu appears where you can choose to have programs displayed in an alphabetical list, in a grid, or in groups according to their category.
The latter option seems to be incomplete yet, so it is not known when it will be included in the stable version of Windows 11. Among the default groups are Developer tools, entertainment, music, news and weather, navigation and maps and more.
Windows 11 Start Menu Gets Long-Awaited Change
At the beginning of the article, we pointed out that the Windows 11 Start menu has been the subject of complaints since the operating system launched. Aside from the cases mentioned, one of the most pointed criticisms was directed at the need to type “All apps” to see exactly all the software installed on the PC.
Earlier this year, Mikhail Parakhinwho was the director of web and Windows experiences at the time, admitted that the “extra click” was annoying. The executive promised to give users an alternative and make the Windows 11 Start menu “great again.”
Certainly, Grouping programs into categories is not a direct solution to this problem.. In any case, this adds another click to the program control. However, this feature will certainly bring real benefit to the Start menu on those computers that have many applications installed.
It’s clear that Microsoft is continuing to refine the Windows 11 user interface, which is now vastly different from the initial versions. The reality is that those just now moving to Microsoft’s latest software are having to spend too much time customizing it to their liking and getting an experience more like Windows 10 or earlier.

Please note that you can change the Windows 11 Start menu settings in Settings > Personalization > HomeFrom here, you can change the appearance of the relevant section, as well as enable or disable several options for pinned items, recommended apps, or other suggestions.
