The largest manufacturers Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix have postponed the completion of production due to sustainable demand and price increase.
Micron plans to stop DDR4 and LPDDR4’s mass materials and Samsung in December 2025 at the beginning of 2026.
All three companies will continue to support niche customers such as automobile industry, defense and telecom industry for several years.
Although the DDR5 slowly replaces its predecessor, millions of PCs, including those published in 2023, still use DDR4 and need accessible memory for upgrade. Therefore, DDR4 will be demanded for a long time, especially on budget platforms.
A decrease in retail sales of DDR4 modules should be closer to 2026, but the memory will not completely disappear – will continue to produce small manufacturers for industrial needs and individual enthusiasts.
