The Bulgarian woman allegedly behind the defunct billionaire cryptocurrency called OneCoin has been added to the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list.
On Thursday, the FBI added Ruya Ignatova to the list of suspected fraudsters. US authorities have been seeking her arrest since 2017 on charges that she ran a massive pyramid scheme by tricking people into investing in the OneCoin cryptocurrency.

Ignatova allegedly started this scheme around 2014 when she founded OneCoin, which she then promoted to investors around the world. Ignatova, who has called herself the “Crypto Queen”, has gone so far as to say that OneCoin will one day replace Bitcoin as the main virtual currency. At the same time, she hired commission employees to help her sell OneCoin to potential investors, thus creating a pyramid scheme.
In fact, the company has never created a blockchain to work with OneCoin. However, Ignatova’s scheme managed to trick many people into investing in the company with the promise of huge profits. Records seized from OneCoin show that between 2014 and 2016, the pyramid generated €3.35 billion in sales and €2.2 billion in profits.
In October 2017, Ignatova disappeared when her company began delaying the exchange of cryptocurrencies destined for OneCoin. That same month, the US issued an arrest warrant for her after a federal grand jury returned an indictment.
According to the FBI, Ignatova was last seen boarding a flight from Sofia, Bulgaria to Athens, Greece. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for any information on the current whereabouts of the scammer. Meanwhile, TV channels in Europe are preparing a documentary film Crypto Queen about Ignatova’s exploits.
