Thanks to the new Digital Markets Act (DMA), Microsoft is forced to remove annoying ad windows that pop up when trying to change the default browser.
Previously, when you tried to make Chrome your primary browser, a window would open explaining the benefits of Edge. Also, Microsoft’s brainchild appeared in the “Recommended Applications” section when changing the “Open with” settings. All this is in the past!
As of the February 29 Windows 11 update, the annoying Recommended Apps section is no longer available. Now you will see a list of all available applications only for the selected action, without intrusion into Edge.
But it’s not all good news. Microsoft has also made Edge an optional browser component for the European Union.
EU residents can now easily uninstall Edge and Bing via Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
