Apple may start using Samsung cameras in iPhones from 2026, Ming-Chi Kuo reports.
Specifically, we are talking about the 1/2.6-inch 48MP ultra-wide sensor that Samsung will supply to Apple in 2026. To this end, Samsung has created firmware to service Apple.
Apple doesn’t usually say who supplies its cameras. But in 2022, CEO Tim Cook revealed that Sony has been supplying iPhone cameras for more than 10 years.
Switching to Samsung does not mean that the iPhone will shoot like Korean flagships. In modern cameras, the main role is played by software, and it depends on it what kind of image will be at the output.
Additionally, the move to 48MP could significantly improve the quality of spatial video, which is currently only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
In this mode, video is recorded on two cameras at once (the main and the ultra-wide-angle). At the moment, the videos are very blurry, so switching to 48 MP can significantly improve their sharpness. [The Verge]
