Literally new yesterday’s film with Alexander Nevsky “Attack on Rio Bravo” was included in the list of the best films of Kinopoisk for all time.
It received a solid score of 9.4 out of 10. However, today the site decided to reset the rating to zero without explanation. Let’s figure it out together – is such audience sympathy justified?
We have already reviewed the novelty and are in a hurry to share our impressions.
The Western We Deserve
I’m not going to lie and I’ll try to be rude. We all know perfectly well what to expect from this picture. I really took it upon myself to be strict, an opinion that is not an acceptable preconceived notion.
What is the movie about: In 1873, a small East Texas frontier town is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of outlaws united as the Hellhounds.
An immigrant from Russia – Colonel of the Guards of the Russian Empire Ivan Turchaninov – marshal of the district and the sheriff of the city fearlessly confront our cruel killer. They did not come just to rob and kill. They need to save their leader.
The plot develops in the first scenes smoothly and measuredly … the first 2 minutes. And then he fits in with two and shoots for some clichés. This big picture consists entirely of everything that we have already seen more than a dozen times. And now I’m not even talking about the western itself, but about world cinema as a whole.
The authors now and then hit on the head, strain the brain with another plot twist. It hurts, it’s unpleasant, but it breaks through emotions. such Movies often evoke positive emotions.but there are hardly any such as scriptwriters, editors, directors and other team are put into it.
The creators simply did not receive a copy of the Wild West script. All heroes and extras are more like cosplayers from some Comic-Con than to detained people.
You completely refuse to believe in the occurrence of events, and this immediately consists of a number of consequences:
• the cast is just terrible, no one even tries to feel at least a little bit about their character
• all characters have no background; you absolutely do not care who these people are and why you should empathize with them at all, the main thing is that Nevsky is cool
• the city is constantly changing in size (does not affect): from 3-4 houses to almost a metropolis, where it is easy to lose each other
• the main villain is not just stamped in the best traditions of the genre, but also not in 95% of the running time, and when he is, he sits in the heir and occasionally says something
• walking! its meaning in the picture with Nevsky, and even does not know how to walk with his character (probably)
Many scenes and dialogues far-fetchedthat before them often smile.
The absurdity of everyone around rolls over and sometimes even makes you laugh at ease. You know, such … hysterical laughter from delirium appears on the screen? So here it is, and there is enough of it.
I’m already silent about to travel in time. At least two were spotted. There may be more, not sure. Apparently, no one bothered much with the 19th century, or hastily removed and forgotten the excess.
Visual – letter mail
To keep you modern, slashes and hackneyed tracks are present not only in the plot itself. This applies to all elements of the film.
Even the angles of the operators are chosen the same as in the pictures of category B. As if he opened a training manual and began to shoot clearly according to it, without stepping aside.
Mountains of corpses, serious looks in the background of the saloon, low-quality WANTED posters, monotonous and boring locations – is this not a masterpiece of modern cinema? And that’s not to mention DIGITAL BLOOD. That is, even a banal ketchup could not be shot from behind the backs of opponents. This is especially evident in the opening meeting.
All thugs must die, and only one person can convince them – Alexander Nevsky. Only bandits fell from his hands. Seriously?
Dragons are in place too. And in some moments it is perfectly clear how the actors even obstruction, just hold hands to the side. But the most evil is the duel scene (where would a western be without it, yes, “Echoes of the Past”?). Only 2 minutes of time was spent on the penetration of the main character and the villain. It does not create tension, but only delays the timing.
In some episodes, the musical component was not only illiterate, but also observed the standard sounds of a fight from the “zero”.
So bad it’s 10 out of 10
“Assault on Rio Bravo” is a great example of how not to make a movie. Perhaps, perhaps, viewers came in 40 years ago, but not now.
Everything about this movie is bad, you can’t waste your time on it. It feels like a mess in every aspect.
But don’t trust me. Go and see this masterpiece for yourself. Just ten out of ten.
