During the analysis, the enthusiast discovered that many video card manufacturers use cheap thermal paste. It works fine, but only in the first months.
For his testing, Vallossek purchased a Manli GeForce RTX 4080 16GB Gallardo graphics card and tested it on a special stand.
He found that thermal paste has high thermal conductivity when applied correctly, but its effectiveness decreases significantly as the layer thickness increases.
Also, the paste dries quickly within a few months, which deteriorates its thermal conductivity. The problem is that large particles of aluminum oxide are used in its composition.
But what’s worse is that many video card manufacturers probably use similar thermal paste, which leads to similar problems. While changing the thermal paste can improve cooling, removing the cooler yourself often voids the device’s warranty.
