But the project has run into unexpected problems. Last week, Florida man Dennis Wynn shot down a Walmart drone he believed was spying on him.

He fired a 9mm pistol into the centre of the drone’s fuselage, which was at an altitude of approximately 23 metres.

The development highlights the challenges facing companies developing drone delivery. In the United States, shooting at drones is a serious crime, on par with shooting at passenger aircraft, and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Walmart plans to expand its drone delivery program as it tries to become a leader among U.S. retailers.

However, considering the prevalence of firearms use in the country, it is stated that such incidents could pose a serious obstacle to the development of technology.
