The new feature will allow you to start a video chat with dispatchers and rescuers, helping you quickly determine your location and provide the necessary assistance.
Previously, Emergency SOS could send voice calls, text messages, and share your location.
This innovation is part of Apple’s broader strategy to deliver security features.
For example, the iPhone 14 and newer models added Crash Detection, which was also seen on the second-generation Apple Watch Series 8, Ultra, and SE. iPhone 14 and 15 users can use Emergency SOS via satellite to send texts and locations even when there’s no cellular signal.
Additional Emergency SOS features include Fall Detection, introduced with Apple Watch Series 4, and the ability to make emergency calls by pressing buttons on the device.
iOS 18 will also bring the ability to use iMessage via satellite and the recently added satellite roadside assistance feature.
