Search engines like Bing and DuckDuckGo can no longer show the latest posts and comments on Reddit unless they pay.
Google remains the only major search engine to display new results for queries from “site:reddit.com.” This comes as part of a $60 million deal that allows Google to use Reddit data to train its AI models.
According to Reddit spokesman Tim Rathschmidt, the blocking is due to a lack of agreement with other search engines on the use of Reddit content.
The move was part of a broader strategy to protect data and find new revenue sources for the company.
As a reminder, Reddit updated the site’s robots.txt file last month to prevent web bots from accessing it without its agreements.
