At one time, I couldn’t even imagine that mobile games had reached console-quality levels. Now we have not just time-killers on our smartphones, but full-fledged large projects for hundreds of hours with an open, well-developed world, developed mechanics, and excellent graphics.
One of the first such games has already become a cult classic, Genshin Impact, which is either loved immensely or hated passionately.
Genshin Impact Review: The Only Free Mobile Game Worth Playing
You can argue about the appropriateness of a casino mechanic in a game that even children like in the comments, but I’ll tell you my story – why I love Genshin and continue to play it even now, 4 years later, and I’m not tired of it.
1. The gaming world is constantly expanding.
Complete map of the world
Genshin Impact is an open-world action RPG that you can roam freely. Even when the game is only on the outside, the first regions, Mondstadt and Li Yuewere full of activity on the map, quests and secrets.
But about once a year, the developers update the map and include new regions that are not learning on the scale of what was there at the beginning of the project’s life.

Each region in the game is visually unique. The starting Mondstadt and Liyue were inspired by the nature and architecture of Germany and China. A year later, the Inazuma region was announced, which was inspired by feudal Japan.
The newly emerged Sumeru and Fontaine are a wild mix of Africa, India and Ancient Egypt.

In addition to visual references, the developers also use weather conditions, landscapes, and general natural ambience from the original source. Thus, the world of Genshin turns out to be unusually diverse and multifaceted.
From the snow-capped mountains of the Dragonspine Range to the green fields of Mondstadt and the Avidya rainforest, even just traveling around Teyvat (this is the name of the world of “Genshin”) exciting. And this world is also filled with a plot.
2. Plot and story. I will watch a long anime.
The staging in cutscenes is sometimes incredibly beautiful
Teyvat is an amazing world full of exciting stories. These stories can be short or long, funny or dramatic. Each region of Teyvat is not just a set of decorations: it is a whole world with its own unique country.
The stories in Teyvat come in a variety of genres, from light action anime to intricate detective stories. Once a year, the game receives a global update, which introduces a new region.
Currently planned seven regionsfive of which have already been released. Each region represents a major story arc with character recognition, setting, and narrative.
This applies to both the main plot and the transmission of quests. Each main character of the arc will definitely have his own personal storyline, which will reveal his past and character.

So, in terms of story, Genshin is like watching an anime with thousands of episodes, divided into large story arcs. And it gets more interesting as you go on.
However, unlike anime, here you can always go back and see how different worlds have changed after you’ve partially spoken them.
3. Sidequests, temporary events change the gameplay
This section of the menu is constantly changing.
In terms of gameplay and game design, Genshin offers the player exciting adventures at every stage. Whether it’s searching for chests with difficulties in locations, completing quests or participating in mini-games, of which there are a huge number in the project.
The content in the game can be divided into two types: temporary and permanent. And temporary content is a real magnet for players. For example, last year’s autumn event “Bomb adventures of Dodoko“”, during which it was necessary to play a mini-game reminiscent of the ancient “Bomberman”.
Another interesting thing is “In the footsteps of the wind” In this mode, the game turned into something like hide-and-seek with objects. Players were divided into two groups: rebels and hunters. The rebels had to hide from the hunters until the time ran out. The hunters had to catch all the rebels during this time. The game ended with the rebels hiding, disguising themselves as objects around them.

And all this within the framework of a large action RPG with an open world. Personally, I have had periods when I log into Genshin solely to participate in such events.
The game also has a lot of interesting ongoing content to keep you entertained. For example,Vitya Bezdna” is a hardcore mode that requires the player to have a deep understanding of the combat system and the ability to use optimal game characters, the so-called “meta”.
By the way, with each update this very meta changes, so it is simply impossible to go through all the floors of the abyss using only one set of heroes.
This mode also features elements of the roguelike genre: each run is different from the others, and death resets progress.

Genshin has a lot of content, and the most important thing is that it is constantly changing at all levels. Playing this game, I understand that I will always see something new. MiHoYo has become a real factory of high-quality single-player content.
4. It’s never too late to start, thousands of hours of interesting gameplay await you.

I often hear the question from my friends: “Is it worth starting to play Genshin Impact now?“Definitely yes! In 2024, for a newbie, this content lasted thousands of hours, just on batteries on a smartphone (or in a gamepad, don’t pay attention that the game is on PS 5).
Genshin currently has 5 regions, 77 playable characters, a ton of consistent modes of ongoing content, and an update 5.0 on the horizon that adds a new region with a new story arc.
And perhaps the most decisive factor is that Genshin’s gameplay is extremely flexible and can be easily adjusted to fit your life schedule.
You can turn on the game for 5-7 minutes on the road, go through one floor in the Abyss or play a mini-game (all this is generous to you for this problem), or you can devote the whole evening to the project, enjoy the story quests or just walk around Teyvat and fall in love with its beauty.
So don’t listen to the haters, but at least format it yourself – the game is free and is available on smartphones, PCs, PS4 and PS5. And I’m sure you’ll like it.
