By his decree, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Sergei Butin as First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The decree was published on the online legal information portal on August 17.

“To appoint Sergei Vladimirovich Butin as First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, relieving him of his duties,” says the decree, which has already entered into force.

Sergei Butin was born in 1964, graduated from ISAA at Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, speaks Japanese and English. Butin holds the diplomatic rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the 1st class. The diplomat was awarded the medal of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland, II degree.

The diplomat has been working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1996. He was the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Niigata, Japan, Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Japan, Deputy Director of the General Secretariat (Department) and headed the Secretariat of the Minister. Until August 17, he worked as Deputy Minister – Head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
