According to the authors of the project, Natalia Shuklina, a graduate student of the Faculty of Chemistry of Nizhny Novgorod State University, a film made of starch and sucrose decomposes in the soil within 50-70 years, making it environmentally safe. Unlike traditional polyethylene, it remains durable and biodegradable, significantly extending the shelf life of products.

The development of Nizhny Novgorod State University is the first antimicrobial packaging that can be produced using standard equipment for the food industry. The technology for turning zinc salt granules into packaging is available for commercial use. Scientists plan to further develop the project and create new pharmacological compounds based on organic zinc salts, Shuklina noted.
