Telegram CEO Pavel Durov is accused of refusing to cooperate in cyber and financial crimes on the messenger, Reuters writes, citing French police.

“Durov is being investigated by the national fraud and cybercrime offices for failing to cooperate in relation to cyber and financial crimes on Telegram, a messaging and social media app. He is still in custody,” a French police spokesperson told the publication.
Shortly before, French President Macron also made a statement that became the first official confirmation of Durov’s arrest. He said the decision was not political and that the arrest took place “as part of an ongoing judicial investigation.”
On August 26, Roskachestvo warned residents of the country about a fraud scheme on Telegram after Durov’s arrest. Criminals send the victim a special link, convincing them to transfer all data to a “secure resource”, but after performing these actions, the user is deprived of access to the account.
