At the same time, up to 60% of successful attacks over six months were carried out by professional hackers, while in 2023 they were mainly driven by motivated attackers – hacktivists.
The leading victims are government agencies, industry, science and education. Companies in these sectors become targets because hackers can obtain the maximum amount of valuable information, explained Irina Zinovkina, head of the Positive Technologies research group.
According to estimates by the founder of the DLBI service, Ashot Oganesyan, the cost of hacking the infrastructure of a large Russian organization with subsequent data theft currently amounts to between $2,000 and $3,000 in cryptocurrency.
In May 2023, Informzashita specialists recorded a 30% increase in the rate of hacking of large companies, up to an average of 72 hours. The attackers’ capabilities are also expanding by attracting funding from hostile countries, the experts said at the time.
