This unique gamepad was created as part of a joint project between Nintendo and Sony to plan CD support for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). In total, approximately 200 of these controllers were produced, most of which were destroyed.
The case of the device being sold resembles a SNES controller, but it has Sony PlayStation written on the front and back.
The Nintendo PlayStation console was originally intended to support both cartridges and CDs, but the project was cancelled after Nintendo ended its contract with Sony.
In 2020, a prototype Nintendo PlayStation console also sold at auction for $360,000, making it the most expensive gaming artifact.
