This law was enacted to protect employees’ privacy from intrusions such as business calls and emails outside of working hours.

Employees can no longer be penalized for failing to respond to business contacts outside of working hours, except in emergencies and positions with irregular working hours.

The law supports workers’ right to personal time and prevents work from continuously intruding on personal space, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the boundaries between work and home have become blurred.

Employers may contact employees in emergencies, but employees may decline if they feel it is reasonable to do so.
