The investigation into the case of Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who is accused of several crimes in France, including “complicity in the administration of an online platform for the purpose of illegal transactions by an organized group,” may last several months, RIA Novosti writes about this, citing the Paris prosecutor’s office.

The Paris prosecutor’s office has announced the timing of the investigation into the Durov case.

The investigation will end once the investigating judges consider that they have established all the circumstances, which may take several months. The case will then be closed.

“The Prosecutor’s Office will decide to drop the case or refer it to a criminal court with reclassification of crimes, if it deems it necessary. Then, the investigating judges, in turn, make the decision to close the case or organize a hearing,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

Durov was arrested at Paris’ Le Bourget airport on August 24. He is suspected of several crimes; the founder of Telegram could face up to 10 years in prison.

Durov, while still in Dubai, met with representatives of the French General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI). He created a separate communication channel with the intelligence services “with a direct line and a special email address,” which, he says, helped prevent several terrorist attacks.
