After the Sun disappears, our planet will not immediately go into the cold. In the first days, due to thermal inertia, living conditions on Earth will still be quite comfortable. But after just seven days, the average surface temperature will drop below zero, and after a year it will drop to -73 degrees Celsius.
The oceans will be covered with ice, but all this will happen in a paradoxical way. The resulting ice sheet will protect the deep water layers from freezing completely, so life will be able to continue there. These will be microorganisms that can live in extreme conditions.
Then a mass extinction will begin on Earth’s surface. Photosynthesis will stop immediately, causing most plants to die within a few weeks. The exception would be large trees, which can survive for decades.
From now on, first the herbivores, then the predators will die. Scavengers will continue to exist for a while longer.
A person could theoretically survive such a disaster, living temporarily in deep-sea shelters powered by nuclear or geothermal energy. Iceland already uses geothermal resources to heat many homes.
Also, due to the disappearance of the Sun, gravitational chaos will occur. The Earth will leave orbit and travel through space.
