LG Display has announced that it will unveil its stretchable displays, which can stretch, bend and twist freely, at one of the world’s most exciting fashion events this week.

The innovative booths are part of the clothing and bag concepts that will be showcased at Seoul Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP).

Her appearance at Seoul Fashion Week was another milestone after LG display In 2022, it will introduce the industry’s first stretchable prototype that can span from 12 to 14 inches in length while maintaining a high resolution of 100 pixels per inch, similar to a regular monitor, and a full color spectrum.

Allowing the designs and colors to change from time to time, the company’s stretch screens appear on garment fronts, sleeves and bags created by leading Korean designers Yoon-Hee Park and Chung-Chung Reed. Models will be showcasing the concepts during the September 5 and 7 shows.

“We were able to develop future fashion concepts using new materials that never existed before,” said Pak, director of GREEDILOUS. “The elastic screens will bring a new paradigm to the world of fashion.”

Lee, head of LIE, added: “Stretchable screens will have a huge impact on the fashion industry, allowing designs that could only be imagined before to be realized.”

The unprecedented design initiative is part of a national project being carried out by South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Assessment to test the commercial potential of stretchable displays that are not only thin and lightweight but can also stick to uneven surfaces such as clothing and skin.

Thus, stretchable displays are not only widely applied in various industries such as fashion, wearables and mobility, but can also revolutionize daily life by ushering in the era of computing devices that can be conveniently worn like clothing or attached to the body.

LG Display was selected as the organizer of the national stretchable display application development project in 2020 and is conducting related joint research and development through industry-academic partnerships with 19 institutions. The company plans to further improve the stretchable display’s capabilities, including elasticity, durability, and reliability, before completing the project later this year.

“By successfully completing the national stretchable display project, we will raise the competitiveness of Korean display technology to a new level and continue to develop products that deliver differentiated consumer value,” said Su Young Yoon, CTO and executive vice president of LG Display.
