Telegram founder Pavel Durov said on his channel that the number of paid subscribers on Messenger has reached 10 million people. He also introduced new features and talked about phasing out a number of legacy functions.

“We removed the People Nearby feature, which was used by less than 0.1% of Telegram users, but caused problems with bots and scammers,” Durov said.
This feature will be replaced by the “Nearby Businesses” service, which will display verified businesses. Business owners will be able to display product catalogues and accept payments without any problems.
Telegram also refused to upload new media files to Telegraph; anonymous people could use them for other purposes.
“While 99.999% of Telegram users have nothing to do with crime, the 0.001% involved in illegal activities creates a bad image for the entire platform, putting the interests of almost a billion of our users at risk,” Durov noted.
He added that in 2024, everything will be done to move Telegram moderation from the realm of criticism to the realm of praise.
Telegram administration has not started moderating users’ private chats. The information that it is possible to complain about the content of private correspondence is not true.
