Apple has added a feature to iOS 18 to protect against the use of spare parts from stolen iPhones. The Apple account will be linked, among other things, to the device’s components, allowing the company to limit the use of parts if they were removed from a stolen smartphone and used for repairs, writes 9to5mac.

For the option to work, you need to mark your stolen or lost iPhone as “lost” in Finder. If they try to use a part of said smartphone to perform repairs, the system will ask you to log in to the original owner’s account.

In case of denial of authorization, the system will consider the parts as spare parts of unknown origin and will limit their operation, for example, it will stop displaying the battery capacity.

The feature has been added to the new iOS 18 operating system, which is scheduled for release on September 16. A tool for recovering deleted and damaged photos has also been added to the operating system.

On September 9, Apple unveiled the new iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at its annual fall keynote. All stock of the iPhone 16 Pro Max sold out within minutes of pre-orders opening.
