In 2023, revenues from such apps, according to Statista, grew by 26.6%, from $38.2 million to $48.4 million. This was due to the continued transition of users from foreign dating apps to Russian platforms.

Mamba CEO Andrei Bronetsky disagrees with Statista’s assessment. He says the market shrank last year but gradually began to recover this year. According to Mamba, in the first half of the year the market grew by 10-15% to 2.5 billion rubles, mainly due to inflation. Russian dating services have not yet been able to match the share of foreign platforms.

Veronika Yakovleva, CEO of Twinby, believes that the market recovery is slow due to the lack of premium services, although a more loyal attitude towards dating among women and young people is driving growth.

According to the VK Dating service, the market volume in monetary terms grew 1.5 times in the first half of the year compared to 2023. The growth is due to stable user behavior, the desire to try different services, as well as the development of applications and the expansion of their functionality.

Anna Avakimyan, chief analyst at Regblok, notes that to correctly assess the revenue dynamics, two factors need to be taken into account: the growing interest in dating apps and the devaluation of the ruble, which reduces foreign currency revenues.

Russian dating services are working on introducing Tinder-like functionality, but are facing a slight user outflow due to a misguided strategy. In particular, the activity of the male audience on Mamba has decreased due to monetization rules that require payment for the opportunity to write to some women, Andrei Bronetsky noted.

  • Following the departure of Tinder, Russian dating apps have seen a significant influx of audiences. Some users have grown by 10% in 2023.
