Apple released iOS 18: AI tools and new home screen features

iOS 18 came to iPhone SE, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and XS Max, iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max, iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max.

Home screen

Users can now change the color of app icons and widgets, as well as freely arrange them on the screen. Additionally, you can protect individual apps with a password or Face ID for added security. Control Center now lets you customize the set of available features, including changing the size of icons and their placement. Plus, you can add new pages with additional options.

The control center has also received major updates. All icons and widgets are spread across multiple screens. For the first time, you can change and remove items on the lock screen.

Apple Intelligence

One of the key innovations in iOS 18 is Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) system, which includes a suite of AI tools and an updated Siri. However, Apple Intelligence is not yet available. It will only appear in October and only in the United States.

The Photos app has received a completely updated look and feel and new customization options. Users can now personalize the screen to their liking, and auto-population of collections like Recent Days, People & Pets, and Trips helps you find important moments faster.

New Passwords app

Apple has introduced a new Passwords app based on Keychain Access. All saved site passwords, login keys, verification codes, etc. are collected here. They can be deleted if needed.

The app easily syncs across devices and notifies device owners if a password is too simple, reused, or found in a known data breach.

Other changes

• Grades can now be used instead of a calculator: the app can multiply, divide, subtract and add numbers.
• Calendar Reminders has become even more convenient, now displaying both events and tasks from within the Reminders app. Users can create, edit, and mark completed reminders right there, and the updated monthly view lets you quickly view all events and tasks at once.
• Messaging protocol Rich Communication Services (RCS) will allow you to display read and write indicators in iMessage when communicating with Android users.

To download the update to your iPhone or iPad, you need to go to “Settings” – “General” – “Software Update” and follow the instructions to install iOS 18.

Apple introduced the iPhone 16, the new Apple Watch, and AirPods at the beginning of the month. Russian retailers announced the prices for these devices on September 10. The cheapest among smartphones turned out to be the iPhone 16 (128 GB) – you can buy it for 130 thousand rubles. The Pro Max model (1 TB) will cost more – from 250 thousand rubles. They will be delivered to the first users on September 30.
