Prices for economy-class air tickets in August rose by 30% year-on-year to 7,912 rubles per thousand kilometers, which is a record for the entire statistical period (since 2000), RBC writes, citing Rosstat data.

August 2024 became the peak of the rate of increase in economy class ticket prices: in June, the cost of flights increased by 24.3% compared to June 2023, in July it increased by 28.3%. The sharpest increase in ticket prices was recorded in January-February 2024; then they increased by 34-42% on an annual basis.
In addition to the record set in August for the nominal cost of an economy class flight, the record-breaking dynamics were demonstrated by the increase in ticket prices since the beginning of the year – by 28.4%. The last time such an annual increase was observed was in 2008, when the price of flights increased by 27.2% from the beginning of the year to August.
Transport Minister Roman Starovoit previously explained the rise in air ticket prices due to increased demand and rising costs for airlines.
In 2024, airline tickets may become more expensive again, which could be due to the imminent increase in air navigation fees, which are expected to be used to repair airfields.
