Researchers from the Universities of Avignon and Vaucluse applied a new method of studying original sources based on the identification of interdisciplinary studies of a single object. The correct amphoras date back to the 1st-2nd c. BC, they store wine, but the question is: how exactly was this drink?

A simple study of the chemical composition of plaque in the walls of amphorae provides very limited information, so archaeobotanists, materials science and history are involved in the work. Researchers found traces of pollen with grape ovaries in the plaque, which caused meetings – amphoras appeared at the winery itself, vines are nearby. So, with a high probability, the wine was locally produced.

The study of pollen by archaeobotanists gave the understanding that wine was both red and white. However, it was not possible to calculate whether we are talking about already breeding or still wild grapes. But they realized that the taste of the drink was very specific, because in the amphorae there was much more of the effect of tar resin than was required for a simple sealing of the vessels. Chemical analysis reveals compounds in the resin that were removed for its distant purpose – bring the substances from here

San Felice Circeo is located about 90 km from Rome, and many examples of drekivicnevi have been found here. here we can conclude that there was a staging post for maritime trade. Local wine, probably not of the best quality, was ennobled with expensive, fragrant imported resin to create a product with a higher value. In this lies the preimrian an object.
