Apple confirmed the update was suspended, telling media outlets: “We have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models while we work to resolve an issue affecting a small number of devices.”

Affected users reported that their iPads simply shut down during the update and wouldn’t turn back on. Some, like Tcorey23, were told that their iPad bricks had to be sent to Apple engineers to be replaced, while others experienced delays in getting replacement parts due to stock shortages.
