Scientists from the University of Reading analyzed years of data on the impact of pollinators such as bees on crop stability. They found that the yield of plants pollinated by bees and other insects varied 32% less than plants grown without a pollinator. In other words, the yield is more stable in the first case.
The researchers suggest that the insects may help alleviate food supply problems that cause price spikes. The authors noted that pollinators are especially important in the cultivation of fruit and vegetable crops. It is therefore important to protect the bee population and its access to plants.
