Data from Butterfly Conservation shows butterfly numbers have almost halved this summer, reaching their lowest level in the UK’s 14-year count.

Juniper attributes this decline to habitat loss, pesticide use and the impact of climate change. The extreme heat and humidity caused by global warming is making matters worse. It warns that this decline in butterfly populations could have far-reaching consequences for national food security and highlights the urgent need to improve ecosystem resilience.

Juniper advocates for the modernisation of the UK’s parks to focus on nature restoration and integrate wildlife conservation initiatives into urban planning.
