When it comes to road safety, radars play a key role in protecting those who travel in their vehicles on a daily basis. However, it is also true that no driver likes them very much. But as frustrating as it is to get a fine, these devices are critical to reducing the number of traffic accidents. In the case of Spain, General direction of travel (DGT) has over 2,600 radars, although one stands out in particular for generating the most fines per year.

The radar that imposes the most fines in Spain is located in the province Valencia. In particular, on AP-7 and about 478 km. The data comes from a report recently released by the AEA, Associated European Motorists, which lists the radars that penalized the most for speeding on Spanish roads in 2021.

During the past year, the mentioned speedometer recorded 60,525 violations by motorists who moved around the area at a speed exceeding the established one. This gives an average 165.8 fines per day, which is a truly alarming number. But what is striking is that this is not a new situation or one that is surprising in the region.

The fact is that the DGT radar on the AP-7 in Valencia has already stood out with a large number of fines both in 2019 and 2020: 59,428 and 47,711, respectively.

Regardless of what happens in Valencia, there are other DGT radars that also stand out for the high number of fines they generate per year. The AEA has compiled a list of the ones that are most punished for speeding, although here we will only mention the most important cases.

The second cinema that caused the most fines in Spain in 2021 is located at kilometer 128 of the A-15 motorway in the city. Navarre. There were 57,961 complaints about non-compliance with the speed limit; that is, 158.7 violations per day.

A special case occurs with the DGT radars, which come in third and fourth on the list, as they are only 11 kilometers apart. We are talking about located on the 246th and 257th kilometers of the A-7 highway, in the city of Malaga. The first imposed 47,246 fines last year, and the second 45,648. This gives us an average of 129.4 and 125 violations per day, respectively.

The top five includes the radar located on the 157th kilometer of the A-3 highway, in the city of Swimming poolwith 45,586 fines (124.8 per day).

Record collection of fines in Spain

Associated European Motorists assures that during 2021 the collection of fines in Spain has increased dramatically, which exceeded 444 million euros. This is the highest figure that has been recorded in the country over the past 10 years, they warned. In this sense, they believe that one of the reasons was the introduction of cloaked DGT radars.

A total of 4,793,520 traffic violation complaints were filed on Spanish roads during 2021. Of that number, 3,056,437 were eligible for speeding tickets. This means that approximately two out of three fines in Spain in the last year – for exceeding the established turnover limits.
