During the Meta Connect event this Wednesday (25), Meta announced the news regarding the company’s Ray-Ban. The augmented reality glasses now have features such as creating reminders for applications such as WhatsApp and Messenger, real-time translation and recording audio, in addition to providing easier communication for user questions.
For those looking to make communication easier with Ray-Ban’s Meta AI, users now just need to say “Hey Meta” and continue with a question or request. Previously, the device required an additional command to perform tasks. The glasses will also be able to record voice messages for WhatsApp and Messenger when the user’s hands are full.
Another interesting feature available on the wearable is the possibility of the glasses reminding the user of certain events. Meta gives the example of a gadget that reminds people where they parked their car, or creates an automatic reminder to send someone a message when they’re getting off a flight.
Simultaneous translation and integrations
Ray-Ban Meta also adds new real-time assistance functionality. For example, when exploring a new city, the user can ask the AI to explain famous places they’ve visited. Another example the developer gave was walking down the aisles of a grocery store and asking the assistant to give tips on what to prepare.
Finally, one of the most anticipated functions is simultaneous translation. Meta reports that Ray-Ban will automatically recognize and translate dialogue in Spanish, French, and Italian through the device’s built-in speakers.
The company also announced that it has joined Be My Eyes, a free app for people with low vision. It will integrate with Audible, allowing users to search for songs using just their voice.
