Google Photos will use Gemini to add context to Memories in your gallery, a feature powered by Gigante das Buscas’ AI that’s in development in the app will help you remember what you were doing in a particular photo or video.

Tips for the function were found by the website staff Android Authority in a new version of the application. The clues are lines of code; more specifically, lines — Refers to the function supported by Google Gemini.

It looks like this feature will allow Gemini Look at the content of the photo or video to add a descriptive element to the memory.

It’s unclear whether Gemini will have access to image metadata (for example, date, location, and source device). However, this information can also be useful to show that the capture occurred during a trip or a potentially important date, such as a vacation.

Google Photos Memories are images that appear at the top of your gallery in a format similar to Instagram Stories. The tool highlights photos and videos from special dates, pets, trips, shared routines and people, or your old relationship if you didn’t remember to delete or archive everything.

Website Android Authority highlights that the function seems amenable to “opt-in”, i.e. manual activation. In this way, the user prevents the unauthorized processing of photos by the Google model.

Since this is still a function under development, there is no estimate for an exact launch, but subsequent updates will hint at more functionality and may even be released for testing in the Beta version of Google Photos.
