Since the beginning of 2022, the Internet traffic presence on Telegram has doubled and now reaches about 11% of total network usage. User activity on VK also increased noticeably, increasing the share to 15%, MegaFon reported.

In response to this, the operator expanded the capacity of communication channels with Telegram and VK, which led to a reduction in data loading delays and maintaining the quality of service.

In August 2024 leadership in the use of its own Internet in Russia remains VK with a value of 15.3%. This is 3.2 percent more than in August 2022.

Telegram saw even more rapid growth: in 2022, its share was only 5.3%, and now it has grown to 11%.

We closely monitor consumption trends and promptly respond to requests from our subscribers. VKontakte and Telegram have shown dynamic growth in recent years, and to ensure sufficient power reserves we are upgrading our network.

Bandwidth increases, expanding load distribution in the mobile network, as well as improving the quality of user experience: services now work more stable, latency when watching video is reduced, and the quality of streaming content is limited.

The situation with TikTok has changed for the worse: its share has dropped to 6.3%, which is 3.9 percentage points less than in 2022. Other services include:

Kinopoisk: 5.6% (increase by 0.9 p.p.)

whatsapp: 2.8% (up 1 p.p.)

Classmates: 1.9% (down 0.4 p.p.)

About 25.6% of traffic is carried out using browsers.

To continue to cope with the growing change in the network, MegaFon continues to update its infrastructure. The throughput of connections with Telegram increased by 14%, and with VK – by 12%.
