Cider in Russia may become more expensive due to a shortage of apples. Spring frosts destroyed part of the harvest in the central and northern regions of the country, causing apple prices to double. Market participants told RBC about this.

According to the president of the National Association of Traditional Cider Producers, Alexandra Kazakova, prices for technical apples used for cider increased by 25% to 100% compared to last year.
The reason was the frosts in May, which especially affected the regions where the main production of traditional cider is concentrated. In the Pskov region this season only 30% of the usual harvest has been harvested, RBC writes. A state of emergency was declared in the Voronezh, Rostov, Tambov, Lipetsk and Volgograd regions.
Experts note that the cost of a liter of apple juice for cider production has increased from 25 to 50 rubles per liter. However, it is difficult to predict how much the prices of the final product will increase, since many factors influence this. At the end of 2023, 8 million deciliters of cider were produced in Russia. At the same time, almost 97% of the product was made from concentrate, and traditional cider made from fresh apples accounted for only 3%.
In July, Roskachestvo announced that the Kaluga company Acme Service LLC became the first certified producer of organic cider in Russia. First, the company certified its apple orchards (4 hectares) and then 11 types of cider produced from these apples.
