Google tracks the location of customers’ Android smartphones for 15 minutes, experts from the Cybernews website recommend.
They analyzed incoming and outgoing traffic on a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL smartphone with a new account and standard security settings. It turned out that the device sends data to Google every 15 minutes containing information about the location.
Geolocation impact even when GPS is turned off. In this case, the smartphone uses data from the connected Wi-Fi network to determine its location.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL also regularly sends Google your email address, phone number, network status, and app list. In some cases, Google servers connected to services that never started.
For example, the smartphone periodically sent data related to limiting the grouping of faces in Google Photos. Photos have never been opened or taken in this application.
Additionally, the Pixel 9 Pro XL always had a new launch code available. Experts believe that Google can remotely change system code or install new applications, although such cases have not yet occurred. But if an attacker is able to bypass this protection, then he will be given the opportunity to enter competitive code into the device.
The researchers submitted their results to Google for comment, but the company did not respond. [Cybernews]
