“Google has notified Kaspersky Lab that the company’s developer account on Google Play has been closed and the applications removed from the store. “Google’s decision is related to the ban on the sale of Kaspersky Lab products in the United States after September 29, 2024,” the company said.
They added that the ban “has no legal effect outside the United States,” but Google has closed access to Kaspersky Lab products for “users around the world.” The company requested clarification on the terms of the restrictions from the US Department of Commerce.
Kaspersky Lab urged users to “download and update Android applications from any other convenient store: RuStore, Galaxy Store, Huawei AppGallery, Xiaomi GetApps, as well as from the company’s website.” Previously installed apps will continue to work, all paid subscriptions and features will remain active.
In a post on the Kaspersky Lab forum, a spokesperson for the company previously said it was investigating the issue and looking for solutions so users can continue downloading and updating their apps from Google Play.
Kaspersky Lab announced in July that it would reduce its activities in the United States due to sanctions. The company noted that it sees no prospects for doing business in this country, although it has been working in the US market for almost 20 years, “protecting entire organizations and users from cyber threats.”
