Qualcomm confirms that there was a ‘zero day’ violation in processors

The manufacturer confirmed earlier this week that hackers exploited a “zero-day” vulnerability in Qualcomm chipsets found in Android handsets. The threat was detected by Google’s Topic Analysis group.

The breach was identified as CVE-2024-43047 in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database. Qualcomm explains that the fault is: researched in a limited and targeted manner.

Right now, There is not much information on who exploited the vulnerabilities. Additionally, the identities of the victims were not mentioned.

“Fixes for the issue affecting the FASTRPC driver are now available to OEMs with a strong recommendation to release updates for affected devices as soon as possible,” Qualcomm announced in a support document.

Fix already released

In its support documentation, Qualcomm listed 64 chipsets affected by the vulnerability. Among these is Snapdragon 8 Gen 1Qualcomm’s top-end processor from 2021. The component is available in dozens of models, including the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Ultra.

However, according to researchers, the breach was exploited in a targeted manner, that is, against specific targets. Therefore, it is unlikely that a large number of devices will be affected.
