The winners of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry are the British Demis Hassabis and John Jumper and the American scientist David Baker. According to the Nobel Committee website, they received the prize for studying the structure of proteins.

Baker will receive the award for “computational protein design.” As indicated in the statement, the scientist has made significant progress in creating completely new types of proteins.

Hassabis and Jumper will be awarded “for predicting the structure of proteins.” Researchers have developed artificial intelligence that can predict complex protein structures. This problem has baffled scientists for half a century, the committee noted.

The awards will be presented to the winners at an official ceremony in Stockholm on December 10.

In 2023, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Mungi Bavendi, Luis Brus and Alexey Ekimov for their discoveries in the field of quantum dot synthesis.

On October 8, the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to American scientist John Hopfield and British-Canadian scientist Geoffrey Hinton for their contributions to research in the field of neural networks.

On October 7, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to American scientists Victor Ambrose and Gary Ravkan for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.
