With Insider Preview Build 22598, Microsoft is testing a new feature for Windows 11. The developer is gradually making Windows Spotlight available to beta testers by replacing the default Windows 11 desktop background with images selected by the search engine Bing.
Windows Spotlight on Windows 10 lock screen.
Since the advent of Windows 10, Spotlight has been used to automatically display photos of landscapes or unique locations on the lock screen, including background information about that particular image. With version 22598, Microsoft wants to bring this functionality to the Windows 11 desktop as well. Although this is enabled by default, users will still be able to choose their own wallpapers. There are also experiments with 4k wallpapers, although again a limited presentation.
A menu allows users to like, dislike or skip the current wallpaper.
This change is expected to be implemented in Windows 11 22H2, which is expected to happen in the fall of this year.
