Leigh-Ann Mulholland, Google’s vice president of regulatory affairs, expressed concern about the impact of the decision in a blog post, saying it could jeopardize user privacy and security, make it harder for developers to market apps, and reduce competition between devices.

This decision is already having an impact on the industry, with Epic Games planning to launch the Epic Games Store on Google Play by 2025 and Microsoft announcing its intention to allow direct game purchases in the Android app for Xbox starting next month.
