SpaceX will stream the launch live on its website, X account and X TV app. The test flight aims to return the Super Heavy booster, the first of its kind for SpaceX, to the launch site. Starship is also required to make a controlled landing in the Indian Ocean, which it successfully completed on its fourth test flight in June.

FAA approval was received earlier than expected; it was originally expected to be released in November.

Notably, the FAA also approved the sixth Starship mission profile.
