“The service is back online, but there may be short-term suspensions for technical work,” Keil said. He clarified that users can view archived web pages, but it is not yet possible to add new data to the archive.
The project team noted that this mode is a temporary solution to eliminate vulnerabilities identified during the attack. Work is currently underway to restore all key functions and strengthen protection.
On October 9, the Wayback Machine website suffered a cyber attack, causing the data of 31 million registered users to be leaked to the network. Keil later confirmed that a DDoS attack had been carried out on the resource and clarified that usernames, emails and encrypted passwords had been leaked.
The Internet Archive is an American nonprofit organization founded in 1996. The Wayback Machine, launched in 2001, provides access to more than 916 billion stored web pages and is an essential tool for studying the history of the Internet.
