The Illness Tracking in Travelers (ITIT) app allows users to report daily symptoms through a short survey. The information is linked to location, climate and air quality data. Analysis of data from April 2022 to July 2023 identified 470 trips by 609 individuals. The most common problem was gastrointestinal symptoms, affecting 19% of travelers, especially in Asia.
Additionally, studies have found that women are more likely to report diarrhea; this may be due to greater sensitivity or attention to recording symptoms. At the same time, respiratory diseases such as colds were more common among European travelers.
