In 2024, the chairman of a US Senate committee was deceived by a deepfake AI posing as a Ukrainian official. An engineering company lost millions of dollars due to a similar scam.
Reality Defender, a startup focused on combating such threats, has developed a tool to detect deepfakes in real time. Starting with a plugin for Zoom, the tool will analyze video calls and determine whether the call participants are real or created by artificial intelligence. Although the tool is still in beta, it is currently being tested with “select clients.”
According to a company representative, Reality Defender supports the development of artificial intelligence. According to him, the vast majority of artificial intelligence applications are useful, but deepfake risks require “special solutions”.
