The first rumors about the development of its own processor appeared seven years ago, when Xiaomi presented its first custom processor, the Surge S1, in the Mi 5c smartphone. It was produced using a 28nm process technology and included 8 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.2 GHz. Due to development difficulties and US trade sanctions, the company suspended the project.

Tang Jianguo, chief economist at the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economics and Information Technology, says this is the first single-chip system for smartphones created in China.

The publication does not report whether Xiaomi uses the power of TSMC, Samsung or another company for production. Gizmochina clarifies that the design phase has been completed and the chip is ready for mass production.

In 2017, the company introduced the Xiaomi Mi 5C, which it equipped with its own Xiaomi Pengpai (Pinecone) S1 chip. Since then, the company has not released any SoCs for smartphones, but is developing chips for charging, battery management and image signal processing.

At the end of August, tipster Yogesh Brar said that Xiaomi will launch its own 5G processor for smartphones in 2025. In his words, the company is working on the chip together with China’s Unisoc.

In July 2024, Xiaomi received the right to produce cars. The permit was issued by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
