Such materials are especially dangerous due to the content of lead and cadmium, chlorine, phthalates, which are dangerous carcinogens that can cause oncology when accumulated in closed, unventilated spaces. Phthalates are also dangerous because they can be released “directly during the use of PVC products.”

Gerwald noted that the production and disposal of PVC linoleum is dangerous and causes air pollution with toxic substances.

“In poorly ventilated areas, hazardous substances, many of which are carcinogenic, may accumulate in the air. When linoleum is heated, for example when exposed to sunlight, the risk of releasing harmful fumes increases. The chemist emphasized that inhalation of them can cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, irritation of mucous membranes and skin, and in case of prolonged exposure, damage to the nervous and cardiovascular systems and oncology.
