Earlier, when launching a paid subscription, Telegram founder Pavel Durov said that if 2.5-3% of users buy Premium, the company will be able to cover their expenses with these funds.
According to a Forbes source, 2.5% of subscription purchasers (total number of users) will reimburse the expenses. And if they buy 3%, the company will even have profits and the ability to add new expensive features. At the same time, the costs do not include the company’s expenses for bond payments.
According to Forbes, if 2.5% of viewers pay for a subscription, Telegram will receive approximately $70 million per month. Including VAT, the company will be left with $56 million, or $672 million per year. A portion of this money will be given to Telegram by Apple, which takes 30% commission from developers in the App Store, and 15% from developers to Google. As a result, Telegram will earn around $45 million per month, or $540 million per year. Forbes also stated that the cost of maintaining Telegram should be $540 million.
As for the cost per user, it should be $0.77 in 2022. A significant portion of Telegram’s spending allegedly belongs to equipment – 35%. Another quarter of the expenditure is verification of users by SMS during registration, 15% – salary to employees and renting space in data centers, 5% each – for services of Internet traffic providers and technical support.
