The first beta version of iOS 18.2 for developers was recently released.
This version adds the second installment of Apple Intelligence features for iPhone. The most significant innovation was the integration of ChatGPT (OpenAI GPT-4o version) in the operating system.
Now the chatbot performs Siri and helps users find answers to all their questions.
We have already protested the news and shared our impressions.
Apple Intelligence is available on any device
Support for Apple Intelligence on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, and iPad and Mac with M1 chip and new.
This limitation is due to the fact that devices must have at least 8 GB of RAM. Apple itself announced this earlier.
iPhone requires at least 4 GB of free space.
Important: To run AI, you need to translate iOS and Siri languages to English. There is no need to change the region.
To change the iOS language, you need to go to Settings -> General -> Language and Region.
To change the Siri language, you need to go to Settings -> Apple Intelligence and Siri -> Language.
How to disable Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT

Access to innovations is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Apple usually provides access fairly quickly, the wait is significantly less than an hour.
To activate the AI, you need to go to Settings -> Apple Intelligence and Siri and turn on the corresponding glass. After changing the language, look for the ChatGPT item in the same menu, go to it and turn it on.
If you want the chatbot to store all your communications with it, you need to log in to your OpenAI account via a foreign IP address. If you don’t want to do this, a foreign IP is not required. ChatGPT in iOS 18.2 works in Russia without restrictions.
What about data security?
As a user, you have full control over the topic, when ChatGPT is used and what features it will have access to. The chatbot is turned off by default, so you’ll need to turn it off to use it with Siri, writing tools, and visual intelligence.
If your request does not specifically request access to ChatGPT, but analysis of your request indicates that other useful results may be found for it, then Siri will ask if you want to use ChatGPT. This can be disabled in the power supply, while maintaining the option for direct questions.
The data sent depends on whether you have a recommended ChatGPT account or not. If you do not enter it, the individual data sent will be sent to the request itself and all files included in it. Apple account information is not shared and your IP address is masked. OpenAI will not be able to use the data to train its models; However, the company does reach out to your location to help prevent fraud.
Impressions of ChatGPT in iOS 18.2
The chatbot is deeply integrated into the operating system. This is due to various Apple Intelligence phenomena. For example, it can help you improve/write text and generate images.
ChatGPT in iOS 18.2 works in Russia without any restrictions.
However, you cannot yet communicate with the chatbot in English. Siri with AI only understands English speech. In the future, the company will add support for other languages, but in the near future there is no Russian-speaking information.
However, you can chat with ChatGPT in English. To do this, you need to double-tap the bottom of the screen to open the request text field for Siri.
To go straight to ChatGPT, you need to start the message with “ChatGPT your request.” For example, “ChatGPT tell us about the working principle of quantum mechanics.”
In response to your request, the chatbot will provide the result in English.
It can be accessed similarly in writing applications where Apple Intelligence is available. For example, in Notes. Click on the AI icon at the bottom of the screen or select “Writing Tools” from the context menu, first click “Write” and write your request.
In this case, the bot can write text for you or highlight a specific fragment of it and then correct it by asking ChatGPT about it.
It takes from 2 to 10 seconds to process each request. It all depends on the context.
Here are some examples of work:

Additionally, ChatGPT can generate an image. Just write the request you need, and the chatbot does it (it works every other time).
Here are a couple of examples:

I also note that Siri with ChatGPT requests activated greatly affects the operating time of the iPhone. So, after 10 minutes of communication, my iPhone 15 Pro gets very hot, and the voltage at one percent of the woman’s charge is 3-5 minutes.
Most likely, in subsequent updates everything will work much better. For now, integration is still crude and not fully preserved.
Bugs are also present. So, Siri cannot always be launched by pressing a button or tapping at the bottom of the screen. And in Telegram, gestures stop working after a while. In this case, the back button application will help if you open some chat or channel. Or you can simply restart the messenger. Probably, in the case of Telegram, the situation will be corrected by an update after the release of iOS 18.1 next Monday.
Good update, but needs improvement
As I said above, the integration is still raw. Yes, everything works, but bugs and strong heating of the device are possible. In any case, this is relevant for the iPhone 15 Pro.
We are waiting for the new version of iOS 18.2.
