According to the department, the splashdown occurred on Friday at 3:29 a.m. East Coast Time (10:29 a.m. Moscow Time), off the coast of Florida, near the city of Pensacola.
A SpaceX search and rescue ship is on duty at the splashdown area, equipped with a hydraulic lifting device to lift the capsule out of the water. Once the capsule is lifted, the crew will be removed from the Crew Dragon ship.
The landing completed Crew-8’s seven-and-a-half-month mission in orbit. The ship’s undocking was scheduled for October 8, but was postponed several times due to weather conditions in the Bay Area.
Roscosmos cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin, Ivan Vagner and Alexander Gorbunov, NASA astronauts Nick Haig, Don Pettit, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams continue to work on the station.
- Alexander Grebenkin became the fourth Russian to fly to the International Space Station on the Crew Dragon. Its shipment was made as part of the cross-flight program between Russia and the United States.
- Russia and the United States signed a two-year cross-flight agreement in July 2022. At the end of 2023 it was extended until 2025 by two more cross-flights.
