The neurosurgeon explained that intervertebral discs absorb stress and provide flexibility to the spine. Violation of their elasticity leads to deformation of the spine.
Timonin noted that cervical disc herniations often occur due to working with computers, injuries and heavy lifting. Hernias manifest themselves with pain in the neck and shoulders, numbness and tingling in the arm, and difficulty in lifting the limb may occur.
Hernias may also occur in the thoracic spine due to poor posture and discomfort while working at the computer. They can be provoked, including by heavy physical activity. This type of hernia is less common and is accompanied by pain in the mid-back, which can radiate to the abdomen and ribs.
The neurosurgeon requested that medical attention be sought if the pain was accompanied by neurological symptoms or did not resolve on its own after a few days.
